In addition to his work in film, Bilous is very active in the world of arts education. He is on the faculty of The Juilliard School where he has served as chairperson of the Literature and Materials of Music Department since 1996. He also teaches film scoring and music technology.

As a nationally recognized expert in the field of arts and education Bilous' work has included seminars and workshops with the Lincoln Center Institute, The Tanglewood Institute, The Center for Creativity (Zermatt, Switzerland), The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, Teachers College, Columbia University, Bernstein Center for Education Through the Arts Fund and Chamber Music America.

Bilous received his BM in composition from the Manhattan School of Music, and MM, DMA from The Juilliard School. He studied composition with Elliott Carter, Krzystof Penderecki, Charles Wourinen, Vincent Persichetti and Elias Tannenbaum.
